Speakerbox has become an institution, providing a space for gigs both big and small in Thonglor This weekend they’ll be bidding farewell to their Liberty Building venue after more than five years of great tunes, cheap beer, and good times.
Local hip-hop, experimental acts, Bhutanese heavy metal, Japanese celtic bands—the stage at Speakerbox has been a place for young musicians and grizzled cover bands alike to test their mettle with Bangkok crowds. Saturday will close out the beloved venue with a “Loving Speakerbox” party featuring Pink Guns and Floyd Roses, Hope the Flowers (covered by BK
here), Kratom for Peace, Faustus, and Pistols 99.
For the final event on Saturday, it’s free entry, and bands start promptly at 8pm.
The fans of Speakerbox truly love the space, and it’ll be hard to let it go. However, Speakerbox tells BK that they plan to open in a new venue in December of this year. Still, Bangkok will miss chilling on those concrete stairs and lounging with the bands.
The current space has been open for more than half a decade, but the Speakerbox crew have been providing live music to Bangkok since 2016 at the Ratchada Train Market before moving to Thonglor.
For the last weekend, in addition to the “Farewell Speakerbox” party, Speakerbox, as usual, has nightly live music planned. Starting on Thursday, they will put on their Chill Session on Thursday and Friday will feature Two Man Sitting and Friends, both free entry.
