The buzz: Bangkok’s American-style Chinese takeout scene has welcomed a new player, serving gut-busting comfort food out of a kitchen in Silom. 

The food: The enticing line-up features all the favorites, from sticky-sweet and syrupy kung pao chicken (B220) with crunchy cashew nuts, dried red chilis and slices of garlic, to juicy black pepper ribs (B220) with hunks of green, red and yellow pepper, onion and mushroom. The classic sweet and sour Hong Kong-style pork (B190) hits all the right notes, with crispy fried pork, sweet pineapple, mixed peppers, carrots and onion, while the sesame prawn toast (B140/four pcs) makes the perfect sidekick. Both the the Yangzhou egg-fried rice (B160/200) and Singapore noodles (B240/300)—thin vermicelli tinged yellow by fragrant and flavorful curry powder—invoke memories of London and New York’s Chinatowns, complete with char siu (Chinese barbecue pork) and pleasantly plump prawns. Bringing yet more nostalgic flavors, the sweet yet tart lemon chicken (B200) is simply addictive.

The packaging: Everything is served in classic white paper boxes, which are taped shut to avoid any spillages. The boxes contain far more food than meets the eye—if you’re unable to finish everything, we can confirm that it reheats well for the breakfast of kings (/slobs). Extra sauce for the lemon chicken is thoughtfully packed separately to avoid any sticky disasters, while pots of spicy chili paste are included for those who prefer more of a kick. Why we’d order again: Whether we need a Friday treat or a Sunday hangover cure, we’re confident that this comforting takeaway—sweet, sour, bitter, hot and salty—will hit the spot, not to mention that the portions leave plenty of room for leftovers. Plans are also in store to open another location on Soi 23 in the near future to better facilitate delivery in the Sukhumvit area and beyond.
