Located 350 meters from MRT Sam Yot, this cafe takes over a three-story corner shophouse opposite The Old Siam Plaza's Sino-Portuguese buildings. The minimal white facade features black-framed glass windows, while almost half of the space inside is dedicated to the black terrazzo counter. Here, you can order pour-over coffee (B140) in a choice of house blend (milk chocolate, burnt caramel and floral notes), seasonal blend (bright, juicy, sweet, grape and mandarin orange notes) and special blend (floral, milk chocolate and sugar cane notes; extra B20).  

 

If you’re not into the slow bar culture, you can try their namesake drink, Varen (B150), a concoction of cold brew coffee and apple juice garnished with a slice of lemon and edible gold flake. The Volcano Coffee (B130)—blended cappuccino served in a chocolate-drizzled glass and topped with cocoa powder and edible gold dust—and Lemon Honey Comb (sparkling honey lemonade topped with a cube of honey comb; B120) are both hits here, too. 

 

Pair your drink with a sweet treat like Basque burnt cheesecake served with a dollop of fresh cream (B115), lemon cake (B95), a buttery scone (B75) or banana loaf (B95).

 

The cafe has also expanded to include a fully-operational nail salon right next door, so when you get your caffeine fix, you can get your nails fixed as well (from B490).
