BANGKOK BAR

The Third Pig

A serious cocktail bar themed after the Three Little Pigs fairy tale.

The buzz: Opened in late July, The Third Pig is a rustic bar and restaurant run by half of the team behind the well-renowned Mixology cocktail bar in Chiang Mai that's themed after the Three Little Pigs fairy tale.

The decor: Intended to resemble the third pig's house of bricks (that withstood the big, bad wolf's huffing and puffing), the bar is nothing short of stunning. Pass inside the glass facade with its big wooden door and you'll find yourself seemingly transported to somewhere in the country-side. On top of lots of exposed red brick, there are hanging lightbulbs and flowers, and even a fireplace complete with a chimney in one corner.

The music: The soundtrack is provided by one of the partners, Charlie de Nipana, who happens to be one half of the highly-touted synth-pop band DCNXTR. Expect an electro-heavy selection featuring the likes of Grimes, Future Islands and Disclosure.

The crowd: After-work gatherings from the TMB office next door, plus the owner’s friends in media and advertising.

The food: Thai dishes with international presentation, but with a much wider men. Try the green curry Caesar salad with crispy chicken (B150), beef massaman lasagna (B250), and mussels kang-som white wine marinara (spicy tamarind paste, B260). Another highlight is the pork knuckle, which comes served in dishes like deep-fried pa-loh pork with sticky rice (B150), pulled pa-loh pork sandwich (B180) and pa-loh cabonara (B180).

The drinks: The same guy behind Mixology has created signature drinks that really stick to theme, such as Huff&Puff (B260), a light drink that mixes Cognac VSOP, sweet vermouth, black tea, honey and lemon juice, served with a soft cracker topped with cabernet sauvignon jelly. Blowing Twings (B260) is an Old Fashioned-inspired cocktail with a base of Wild Turkey 81 bourbon mixed with sweet vermouth, aperol, Cognac VSOP and vanilla bitters served with a smoking cinnamon stick. The fruity Brick House Cobble (B260) combines vodka, blackcurrant liqueur, chocolate liqueur, port wine and cranberry bitters, served with mixed berries and KitKat. As for beer, there’s currently Limburgse (B130/230 per half pint/pint) and Limburgse Rose (B140/250) available on tap, and Beerlao, Heineken and Singha by the bottle, with more to come.
