Pizza Pazza

It might be hidden in the depths of a gloomy soi but that doesn’t seem to put people off, as Pizza Pazza is always packed, especially at weekends. The cozy ambience, despite the bare cement walls and plastic chairs, fits the family pizzeria concept. The original idea came from the children, who pushed their parents to open a place because they felt their mom’s pizza recipe was so good. Even if we block out memories of Limoncello (or even Scoozi) and treat this as family-style pizza, we’re not sure it’s that amazing. Pizzas (from B180–B515 depending on size/toppings) look decent, smell pleasant and have a good crunchy base. The trouble is, we just find the toppings a little bland and underwhelming considering the hype around this spot. It’s not just the pizzas. Their salmon-steak (B320) looks and feels great—a thick, moist, well-cooked piece of grilled-salmon with lots of salad—but again, they seem to have forgotten the seasoning. It means we have to look elsewhere for our fireworks. Their onion soup (B85) is one such dish, very simple but delicious. A very moreish choice that had us draining the bowl thanks to their well-balanced flavors, the sweetness of the onion working well with the salty overtones of the cheese and cream. The rather scarily titled From Hell pasta (pork spaghetti fried with chili topped with parmesan, B180) is fortunately no horror show, but instead a full-flavored dish that would have us coming back to this place. As would their special tartufo (B120), a rich and creamy ice cream dessert, made by an outside Italian chef. This and some of the other items on the menu, plus the warm, friendly family service all mean this place is certainly worth stopping off at, if you’re in the area. Indeed the only real disappointment is the slightly overrated pizza, but that shouldn’t put you off this affordable family joint.
