Gaggan fuses Indian and Mexican cuisine at prices that won't make your eyes water.
After over two months of teasers, Gaggan Anand’s latest venture opened on Mar 6 in comparatively clandestine style. Taking over the former home of Meatilicious, the restaurant’s vibrant palette of orange and blue is at once familiar and unplaceable, reflecting the opening’s fictitious origin story: a love affair between a Mexican girl and an Indian boy.
Jumping in line, the menu merges home-style Mexican cooking and Indian curries with a fieriness worthy of the neon sign proclaiming “love should never be mild.” Expect reinventions of Gaggan faves from times gone by, like the papdi chaat (B250/four pcs.)—savory crisps topped with yogurt, chutney and mashed potatoes—as well as his signature local crab curry with long beans (B590), alongside paneer queasadillas (B200), burnt eggplant and avocado tacos with Indian mustard oil (B300), dal jalapeno bean stews (B200) and shredded pork vindaloo wraps with pineapple salsa (B300). For dessert, choose from churros with elderflower ice cream (B180), tres leche with passionfruit and mango (B200) and more.
