The buzz: Right after the opening of new restaurant Shuffle on its second floor, the Rainhill community mall welcomes another exciting new venue, rooftop Japanese-themed bar and restaurant Kinki, imported from Singapore, which promises to deliver an “urban attitude.”

The décor: As you exit the elevator, you’re greeted by a huge wall covered in colorful graffiti courtesy of the local NEF crew, which gives you a good indication of the place’s character. The graffiti continues inside, but only on one wall, as the other three comprise substantial windows. Here, the light-brown wooden table and chairs create a loose and comfy atmosphere in which to enjoy your meal. The outdoor terrace, meanwhile, is filled with tables of two different heights and surrounded by a quite pleasing amount of greenery, too.

The music: The indoor space takes thing easy with jazz, soul, funk and r n’ b tunes, while the outdoor terrace features more upbeat house, disco and chart hits spun by some of Bangkok’s fave DJs like Co2an and Felix Moreno. 

The crowd: With its BTS-friendly location, customers here are a mixture of Soi 11 electro-lovers following their favorite DJs and Thonglor-Ekkamai regulars looking to spend their evening in more elevated surroundings.

The price: The place serves up Japanese fusion fare; try the foie gras and scallop sushi (B350), pomegranate miso black cod and unagi and Hokkaido scallop maki. As for cocktails, there’s a long list of Thai-Japanese concoctions, like the Spicy Hachimitshu (vodka, honey umeshu with wasabi, cucumber and lemon, B240) and Magari Thai (lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime infused tequila mixed with fresh lime and honey, B240). Singha, Tiger, Heineken and Asahi are the beers for now, and they only come in bottles (B120-170).   

Why you’ll come back: Despite only modest views of the Sukhumvit skyline, this new rooftop venue makes for an airy urban escape. With two new and interesting eat and drink venues in the one spot, Rainhill may well become the next pre-gaming spot for Sukhumvit partygoers.
