BANGKOK BAR
The Firm
This five-story venue is an all-in-one nightlife destination.
The buzz: The ultra-exclusive nightlife scene has a new high bar with this five-story venue that combines 24-hour restaurant and pimped-out club.
The decor: The Firm has mashed together two shop-houses and decorated the place in sleek blacks, ambers and glass. The first two floors, the restaurant, are filled with low tables and loungey seating areas. The club starts on the third floor, where there’s a DJ booth and a massive LCD screen that extends to the fifth floor, giving the impression of a mini electronic music festival. Again, seats abound, and there’s many an intimate nook and corner to tuck yourself into. In an inspired move, the designers have installed USB charging sockets in the fifth floor’s corners.
The food: The 24-hour restaurant serves East-meet-West cuisine, like the Prawn Samurai, which sees the crustacean matched with wasabi mayo, avocado and aioli (B220). The Citrus Peruvian (B420) is chopped salmon and oysters in a ceviche marinade reinvented with black bean sauce and maple soya, all topped with diced green apple. For the mains try the Everything It’s Quacked Up To Be: ravioli stuffed with Chinese-style duck served with foie gras in a red wine sauce (B620). We would go back just for the Chocolate Ecstasy dessert, composed of a pot of bitter hot chocolate served with fresh mango and salted caramel ice cream (B220).
The drinks: The cocktails here are fruit-focused and go down dangerously easy. There’s a pomegranate Bellini that’s pear brandy, pomegranate juice, prosecco and fresh pomegranate (B360). The Apple Caramel Martini is practically dessert, made up of vodka, Granny Smith green apple and caramel, rimmed with caramel and a bread crumble (B380). The Sweet Poison is electric blue, mixing Malibu rum with blue curacao and pineapple juice (B360).
The music: R ‘n’ B from across the ages.
The crowd: High-fliers with a penchant for partying until very, very late.
Why you should care: It’s an all-in-one nightlife destination. Come for dinner, drinks, dancing or an after-party snack. Monday is Ladies’ Night, which means a stripper (at midnight) and three free drinks for women. The DJ starts at 10pm on other nights.
Open daily 24 hours for the restaurant; 10pm-2am for the club floors.
