Clubhouse Sports Bar and Grill
The buzz: A new spot for sports fans looking to catch a match in a more contemporary setting than your normal Irish-themed wood-paneled sports bar. They also claim to offer more options to what you watch with an ability to show eight different sporting events at screening up to once.
The décor: Following what seems to be a growing trend, the Clubhouse eschews the dark wood and bric-a-brac covered walls of the British pubs. Instead, it offers a less claustrophobic vibe, helped by the large covered terrace that lets you enjoy the sport while watching the world go by. High ceilings, big windows and pine floors continue the more sophisticated tone inside, as do the booths containing large leather sofas and their own individual TVs. There are no less than 11 HD TVs, while upstairs is a pool table and the “look out,” another outdoor terrace so you don’t have to slink downstairs for your ciggie.
The music: They call it “adult eclectic” which realistically means rock classics and the Beatles. There is a possibility of live music in the future, though.
The crowd: Not surprising, considering the theme and location, it does tend to be a slightly older, more expat crowd who come for the choice of sports and the happy hour deals.
The price: Your standard local beers as well as imported offerings like Tetley’s (B220/pint), Stowford Press Cider (B220/pint) and Carlsberg (B175/pint). There are also a few classic cocktails and house wine by the glass. If you get hungry there’s a solid menu of pub grub like burgers and fish and chips, but also a-soon-to-be-launched bistro menu will offer lighter salad and pasta options.
Why you’ll come back: You’re a sports fan who lives in this neighborhood, doesn’t want to hit up the seedier options at Cowboy and just can’t face the inside of another “authentic” British boozer. Nick Measures
