Club 99
The buzz: The wine bar trend hits The Nine community mall. Despite being right next door to the chic restaurant Wine Bistro, Club 99’s combo of Thai food and loads of wine is doing brisk business. The place is crowded even on weekdays so make sure you call ahead.
The décor: Club 99 has a very clubby vibe, black and gold tones—black tables, black ceiling lamps that emit red light—and of course, a dark wine cellar in the corner that reaches all the way up to the high ceiling. Two flat screen TVs show Channel V and there’s even a proper stage for live music from the house band, hopefully distracting you from the views of Daiso outside.
The music: The house band covers acoustic pop hits from 7-10pm and more electric pop from 10pm-1am. Expect to hear Bird Thongchai, Tattoo Colour, Eric Clapton and Maroon 5.
The price: Cocktails range from B145-B200, wine by the glass is B170-215, wine by bottle B1,100-5,300 and whisky B1,600-B9,900. Club 99 puts an emphasis on food as well, so try their popular Salmon Zaab (spicy salmon with herbs B160), grilled beef with spicy sauce (B220) and grilled shredded catfish in spicy sauce (B195).
The crowd: Looks like Club 99 is all about 30 and 40-something office workers from the neighborhood during weekdays but you might see a younger crowd on the weekend. Also, there’s some family dining going on in the early evening.
Why you’ll come back: There isn’t much originality or choice at The Nine, so Club 99 is a decent option for mid-week drinks and dinner. Pieng-or Mongkolkumnuankhet
