The Cave
The buzz: Ratchathewi’s cheap and cheerful bar enclave Cocowalk, just got a new opening, The Cave, which goes for a theme park look in sharp contrast with its more hum-drum neighbors.
The décor: The bar is decked out in an underwater cave theme, featuring stucco walls and faux-stone furniture. Don’t go expecting a scene from Sanctum, though, because it looks more like a living room belonging to the Flintstones. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing especially if you’re looking to steer away from the house-turned-bar-slash-restaurants currently dominating our nightlife scene. Apart from an obligatory disco ball and a DJ booth, there are a few flat screens dotted on the walls showing live football matches.
The music: A resident DJ cranks out commercial hip hop and, as the night matures, high-energy trance.
The crowd: Mostly whiskey-sharing male university students, soccer fans and lost tourists.
The price: Beer B80, whiskey B1,000, mixers B40. No cocktails are on offer at the moment.
Why you’ll come back: You probably won’t but The Cave should attract a loyal following of uni students amused by the décor. Chanun Poomsawai
