BANGKOK BAR
Bottles of Booze
The craft beer bar Chong Nonsi has been waiting for.
The buzz: Sukhumvit Soi 34’s bottleshop-slash-bar, Bottles of Beer, has brought its excellent range of brews, and regular drink deals, to the center of Sathorn business district. The new spot is called Bottle of Booze and puts added emphasis on craft spirits as well as beers.
The decor: Sitting just a skip away from BTS Chong Nonsi, this little box of a bar's walls are almost completely lined with beer and spirits, whether in the fridge or on the shelves. Slender tables running down the center of the room and beside a big window give the place a communal feel. A food truck parked next the bar serves as an external kitchen.
The drinks: Bottles plucked from around the world. International cult favorites like Oskar Blues IPA (B230), Stone Go To IPA (B255) and Heretic Lager (B250) sit side by side with local names such as Yod Beer Bearnana Stout (B175) and Chalawan Pale Ale (B150). We're also excited to find Thai-made spirits like Lamoon (B730) and Lamai (B500) rums (officially "white spirits") made from sugarcane in Lamphun province. There's a B50 surcharge for every brew you buy to drink inside (included in the prices above), but order up any six bottles and they’ll waive it.
The food: Pair your beer with burgers like the Bacon Explosion (pork patty wrapped in bacon, B220) or a juicy, pulled duck option (B250). Order with a side of decadent duck-fat French fries (B150).
The crowd: Office workers loosening their ties and letting their hair down after finishing work for the day.
Why you should care: Easygoing and welcoming, Bottles of Booze does quality beers and spirits right beside the BTS—just what this neighborhood was missing. Neon Boonyadhammakul
