1. The Nendo designed space is genuinely amazing

The redesigned Siam Discovery is so dramatically different that you’ll forget what the original ever looked like. The structural, futuristic new look is the work of celebrated Japanese designer Oki Sato of Nendo design studio—named by Newsweek magazine as one of the 100 Most Respected Japanese People in the World and winner of Designer of the Year awards from everyone from Wallpaper to ELLE Decor. The sharp, cutting-edge look blends installation artwork with commercial product displays to create a space that’s genuinely intriguing and sets the new standard for lifestyle malls in Bangkok.

2. There’s a thing called the Dressing Lab that picks your clothes for you

The mall has this concept they’re calling “The Exploratorium.” Deciphered, that means they want people to get a more interactive shopping experience. The best example of this we found was at the Dressing Lab; a small room where you can choose from a range of styles that match your personality and let the computer pick out items in the store that match with your look. Very cool.

3 You’ll find some world-first flagship stores and cafes

One of the highlights you need to know is Japanese fashion house Issey Miyake’s new boutique. The brand’s first flagship store outside of Japan, it’s dubbed the world of Issey Miyake and contains a cool blend of ultra-stylish minimal-yet-playful menswear and womenswear. On the dining side, Billboard Café also debuts at Siam Discovery.  This marks the first time that the world’s most recognized music magazine has ever offered a café designed for music lovers.

4. It’s the city’s biggest hub for cutting-edge Asian design

Aiming not only to promote Thai designers, Siam Discovery also goes big on design from the rest of Asia, with a special focus on the best brands from Tokyo Fashion Week. Expect a wide range for both men and women from labels like Yoshi Kubo, Factotum, Beautiful People, Dressed Undressed and Discord by Yohji Yamamoto.

5. The home decor section has some really cool new brands

The new Siam Discovery welcomes back one of our favorite home decor brands, Habitat, which has a huge store on the third floor. It sits alongside other world-class names for stylish home accessories like Hay, Tom Dixon and Kartell, which will be opening its first concept store in the world here.

6. It has the city’s best sports stores

Leading sports brand Nike will also be opening its first concept store in Southeast Asia, offering a full line of products that will be available at Siam Discovery ahead of other locations. You’ll even get to use their personal embroidery service to have your name stitched on sneakers and shirts. On top of that, Adidas is also opening its largest store in Thailand here, featuring exclusive collections for Thai fans of the brand.

7. There are heaps of cheap-but-stylish everyday items for you to shop for

The new Siam Discovery is as much about home decor as fashion. Visit the new version of multi-brand store Loft to find some of the most stylish stationery, IT products and health and beauty goods in town. Over 80 percent of the items in store are imported from Japan. Also don’t miss O.D.S (Objects of Desire Store). The brand new multi-brand store offers creative daily products and home decor from leading and emerging Thai designers like 56th Studio, Trimode and PDM.

8. You’ll find some fresh new collaborations with local brands

Siam Discovery has also partnered up with many influencers from Thailand to offer exclusive experiences that you can only get here. Two of the most exciting are Café Now b Propaganda, collaboration between funky and creative home decor brand Propaganda, and Modern Kitchen by celebrated Chef Bo Songvisava of Bo.lan. Also check out Discovery Hubba, a co-working space created by Hubba that not only provides space for working but also offers special activities and workshops as a springboard for retail start-ups.

9. There’s a sustainable focus that genuinely seems to be making an effort

If a product comes from sustainable origins, they’ll let you know thanks to a little eco-friendly sign next to it. On top of that, this is the first mall in Thailand that makes an effort with recycling, with bins clearly divided into sections topped with lids to prevent you putting the wrong trash in the wrong bin. On top of that, the mall promotes eco-friendly vehicles by joining force with Tokyo Bike to offer cycling products and equipment as well as a customized bicycle fitting service and even a convenient test ride park.
